Ronald Reagan's Policies Began The Destruction Of The Middle Class & The Constitution

2/10/2015

Of Reagan's policies we know that this is what he set out to do:

"Only by reducing the growth of government," said Ronald Reagan, "can we increase the growth of the economy." Reagan's 1981 Program for Economic Recovery had four major policy objectives: (1) reduce the growth of government spending, (2) reduce the marginal tax rates on income from both labor and capital, (3) reduce regulation, and (4) reduce inflation by controlling the growth of the money supply.

... and he accomplished the exact opposite with a booming deficit, and the financial crisis of 2008 which Reagan laid deregulation polices laid the foundation for, not to mention the inflating currency which minimum wage has barely kept up up leaving most of the country in poverty wages. Bush did the same thing with the same results... and now the GOP are once again pushing the same policies whose results we have documented over almost 20 years of GOP administrations proving them to be bad polices. But the GOP owns so much of the media that they are winning elections almost solely on lies and fear based marketing.

Article: Supply Side Economics: Do Tax Rate Cuts Increase Growth and Revenues and Reduce Budget Deficits ? Or Is It Voodoo Economics All Over Again?

Did Reagan's policies destroy the middle class? That one is an easy yes...

How Reaganomics Destroyed The Middle Class...And Maybe America

Notice in the following images how badly everyone but the rich have been doing since Reagan's polices. It's amazing that Republicans, being mostly poor & middle class folk, have been voting against their interests and for the interests of a very few rich people for the past 40 years. A population voting against their own interests for such a long time surely can't be a healthy phenomenon?

The National Debt went up under: Reagan 186%, Bush W. 77%... (what the following statistic show is that only the rich benefited from Reagan's policies)

Going deeper...

Secret Government - The Constitution In Crisis (FULL):
This is the full length 90 min. version of Bill Moyer's 1987 scathing critique of the criminal subterfuge carried out by the Executive Branch of the United States Government to carry out operations which are clearly contrary to the wishes and values of the American people. *** WITH SOUND! Only a small piece (about 1 1/2 minute) is without sound, for a copyrighted bit of music. Full sound resumes at 3:20 ***

The ability to exercise this power with impunity is facilitated by the National Security Act of 1947. The thrust of the exposé is the Iran-Contra arms and drug-running operations which flooded the streets of our nation with crack cocaine. The significance of the documentary is probably greater today in 2007 than it was when it was made. We now have a situation in which these same forces have committed the most egregious terrorist attack on US soil and have declared a fraudulent so-called "War on Terror". The ruling regime in the US who have conducted the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq, are now banging the war drum against Iran.
Questions to ask yourself about GOP policies going to to the Reagan era:

Was Reagans executive order creating the NSA actually to protect the GOP from another Watergate?

Are Reagans Death Squads of S. America & the instability they caused part of the reason we are having such a large immigration influx?

A Look At the Fake National Debt Budget Outcry With John Stossel's Example Provided For Illustration

Below is the John Stossel video, but first get some background information:

News Report:
Is the evidence for austerity (severe debt reduction measures) based on an Excel spreadsheet error?

Answer = Yes!

Austerity's Spreadsheet Error - Carmen Reinhart and Kenneth Rogoff's 2010 debt study inspires austerity around the world, but grad student Thomas Herndon debunks the results.  (07:43):

What John Stossel seems to be doing below is trying to sell fake economics to the people...

Austerity's Spreadsheet Error - Graduate student Thomas Herndon identifies little staggering omissions in a prominent academic paper, "Growth in a Time of Debt."  (04:19):

What it is to be an American is a function of the type of society we have. We expect firemen to put our a fire. We expect a road to be there to get us wherever we want to go (& not just because a particular route is profitable for toll roads), we expect the cops to come to our house if we call... ALL this services are funded by our taxes for our benefit as per Article 2 Section 8 of the Constitution with every State doing - or not doing - it's part.

We can protest taxes because our taxes gave us a livable society in which we are allowed to protest.

Example of fake economics in Kansas:

 Revenue + Expenditure = A State

Sam Brownback's - REVEALING - Conservative Kansas Experiment - Jessica Williams travels to Kansas to investigate the outcome of Governor Sam Brownback's extreme tax-cut experiment. (4:54):

GOP Hypocrisy On The Issue Illustrated

Note: Left out unfunded Bush wars + the huge reduction in taxes for the rich which is the single largest contributor towards the debt i.e. if you don't remove the causes of a problem the problem will persist. Bush admits to this below.

Reminder: Republican rule put the country on the brink on economic collapse (remember 2008-09?). Even George Bush said that he didn't understand that his ideological position of no taxes etc. turned out to be bad for the economy
Past GOP hypocrisy on this issue showing a pattern of behavior:

Above: George Bush increased the debt ceiling in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006. 2007 and twice in 2008 with no question by the GOP Congress.

John Stossel's Example (reprint from an earlier blog post)

From John Stossel = "I think it will take visible riots to help people focus on this thing" (i.e. he is suggesting to his followers that 'we may have to riot'!)- example of violent rhetoric on the extreme right by its true believers - connects with tea party and ideological economics (i.e. fake economics). http://video.foxnews.com/v/1042453656001/can-the-us-learn-from-greece/
What Stossel is promoting (such as with Iran here) is standard Fox-News/GOP's party line. To cause harm to US Citizens through violence.

 Glenn Beck advocates violence...

A look at Glenn Beck & his tendency to promote extreme forms of violence . [People like Glenn Beck having political and social power scare me the most - To understand why please watch this video.] . Instead of violent rhetoric I think the sources of the problems need to be rooted out as I explained here (i.e. aggressively and not the way outlined in GOP funded Liberal Think Tanks).

This will be the result of these violent promotions by Fox News if they achieve thier rioting goal:

1. "He says looting makes "powerless people suddenly feel powerful" and that is "very intoxicating"." -http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-14463452 .

2. Simple opportunity for lawlessness by the breakdown of infrastructure -http://www.wired.com/science/discoveries/news/2007/07/dayintech_0713

3. Normal behaviour motivated by greed or heartlessness or simply living by the law of the streets - an example of a complete breakdown of law http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-14456065

4. DAILY SHOW LINK: Britain is very tame - at 2mins and 40 secs, check out the looters standing in line to loot (there were also images of looters helping each other under glass windows etc. - took 2 days for 'batons' to be allowed... no one has guns etc.)

The many perspectives on the Britain riots: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-14483149 -

The LA riots were much more violent (there is literally no comparison): http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-14501282

The anger at the violent reaction created its own mass movement: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/in-pictures-14490167

The problem of the rumor mill that leads to mass hysteria (at local, national or global levels) and is something that the US media does on a regular basis with its fear marketing (though that may have gone down?), Fox news has taken this fear mongering to criminal levels(IMO): http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-14490693

Another look at the origin of the 2 reactions in England; "Are they rioters, which implies a political objection, looters, which doesn't, or vandals, etc? It's interesting too that a lot of the people cleaning up embraced the Sun's 'scum' so readily, a reflexive response of anger." http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-14506159 .

Side Note: The fall of the currency has been a major drumbeat amougnst the Koch Brother Libertarians. This hyperinflation result was predicted for 2001. Then 2012. Now 2013? We have to accept that the Fox Business Libertarians don't understand the economy anymore than a 10 year old. Who, besides the EXTREMELY old &  decrepit, are the only ones who believe their crap). But yes, in every outright lie there is a kernel of truth. For QE the kernel of truth is this: "As the Bank of England prepares to vote on quantitative easing, a report argues the extra cash 'exacerbates already extreme income inequality'". Which actually helps the Koch Brothers and any oil manipulations they may be up to. So Fox Business needs to re-think their incitement strategy. Maybe even get an education if the most recent news is any measure of their knowledge:

The Childhood Diseases Vaccination Debacle Is Just The Latest Symptom Of The GOP's Anti-Science Attitudes & Policy Positions

2/3/2015

Background:
Ebola; The Perfect Example Of How The GOP Is Reacting Out Of Fear Rather Than Through Reason & Science (GOP Are Basically The Anti -Science Party!)
The GOP & the anti-vaccine movement - As the U.S. battles its worst measles outbreak in 20 years, Chris Christie and Rand Paul are defending what they call parents’ right not to vaccinate their children.

VACCINES - A growing number of parents opt out of vaccinating their children, thanks in part to a discredited study linking vaccines to autism. (6:50):

GOP politics gets weirder...

Vaccine science becomes GOP point of debate -
Rachel Maddow reports on the litany of declared and expected Republican candidates for president in 2016 who seized upon the unexpected contention over the validity of vaccinations to clarify (or run from) their positions on the matter.

Anti-vaccination concerns not based in fact - Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, talks with Rachel Maddow about the health risks associated with not being vaccinated, and the importance of dispelling the myths behind the anti-vaccination argument.

The origin of the anti-vaccine movement - Chris Hayes is joined by Retro Report’s Bonnie Bertram to trace the current anti-vaccine movement back to one debunked, discredited study published in 1998.

MSNBC: The next phase in the war on science

For supporters of modern science, the prevailing political winds have to be discouraging. For example, congressional Republicans not only reject climate science en masse, but each of the incoming GOP senators are climate deniers.

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) likes to mock NIH research as a punch-line. Republicans spent weeks balkingat the science of the Ebola virus. Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal (R) doesn’t want to say whether he believes in evolution – and he was a biology major. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) is poised to take over the Senate panel on science, and Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.) will chair the Senate Environment Committee.

It’s been several years since my friend Chris Mooney wrote a terrific book called, “The Republican War on Science,” and I’m starting to think it may need a sequel. Michael Hiltzik reported yesterday:

Nothing is easier, if you’re a political philistine playing to an audience of anti-intellectual rubes, than to ridicule scientific research projects by caricature.

Rep. Lamar Smith, R-Texas, who frighteningly enough is chairman of the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology, appears bent on polishing this methodology to a lustrous glow. As detailed in a thoroughly unnerving report by Science’s Jeff Mervis, Smith has his staffers compiling a spreadsheet of National Science Foundation grants vulnerable to being lampooned as, in Mervis’ words, “silly, obvious, or of low priority to society.”

Not surprisingly, officials at the National Science Foundation and the Association of American Universities aren’t pleased and have begun pushing back. They warned yesterday that the inquiry pushed by Smith and his colleagues “is having a destructive effect on NSF and on the merit review process that is designed to fund the best research and to remove those decisions from the political process.”

Republicans spent a year responding to questions about the climate crisis by saying, “I’m not a scientist.” But when it comes to evaluating the validity of research, suddenly they are scientists?
